Public invited to comment on DPS' administrative rules as part of state review to streamline regulations

Public input is essential in effort to make Missouri’s Code of State Regulations for 6 DPS divisions, Office of the Director and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program clearer, up to date and efficient

The Department of Public Safety is encouraging members of the public to make suggestions on how the department’s administrative rules can be improved to make them clearer, more concise and to increase the efficiency of the regulations of six department divisions, the department’s central management unit and the program that licenses and disciplines peace officers.

Sections of the Missouri Code of State Regulations deal with these Department of Public Safety divisions and are all under review: Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, Division of Fire Safety, Missouri Gaming Commission, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri National Guard, Missouri Veterans Commission, the department’s Office of the Director, and the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program, which is part of the Office of the Director.

“Gov. Greitens believes efficient and up-to-date regulations allow state government to better serve Missourians and has ordered a review across state government,” Public Safety Director Drew Juden said. “Our department and its divisions fully support the Governor’s directive and believe members of the public we serve should be a vital part of the review process. We encourage public participation in this important review.”

To make it easier for the public to review and comment on DPS division regulations, DPS has created a webpage that includes all of the divisions with regulations to be reviewed, links to the current rules in the Code of State Regulations and an online comment tab that simplifies the review process for interested citizens. The rules review webpage is at: http://dps.mo.gov/rulereview/. It can also be accessed from the Department of Public Safety homepage: http://dps.mo.gov/. Just click on the “Administrative Rule Review” tab.

The Department will also hold two public hearings to allow interested Missourians to comment in person. Those hearings, which will be informal and allow participants to deliver comments in person, will be held in Jefferson City on July 13 and July 20.
